Muted Yet Fashionable: How Nargis Fakhri Gave Us Major Fashion Goals in ‘Rockstar’

We decided that our site needed a new regular feature, so why not mix Nargis Fakhri’s love of movies with another of her passions, perhaps… fashion?
The film is 2011’s much-talked-about ‘,’ directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Ranbir Kapoor and then-newcomer Nargis. It can be debated how she is made to wear exquisite east-European gowns, Kashmir-inspired scarves, and overall highly elegant clothing. However, Ranbir’s clothes are appropriate and effectively highlight the progression of his character. There has obviously been thought put into his appearance, from don’t-care-what-I-wear blue jeans to elegant and trendy ensembles to unusual harem trousers (coupled with long hair and a beard).
Indian fashion designers Aki Narula and Manish Malhotra, as well as costume designer Dolly Ahluwalia, created the outfits.
Heer’s College Look
As you can see from their college days, Heer as Nargis, and Jordan, aka Ranbir both appear extremely relaxed and “normal” at the start of the narrative. They dress how we imagine many Indian students to dress, except Heer (who comes from a wealthy family).
Traditional Kashmiri Gown
Heer’s bridal gown and traditional Kashmiri garb are two of the best outfits in the film. We, like most white viewers of Indian films, appreciate the vibrant traditional Indian attire. Top-notch!
Hawa Hawa
Who doesn’t adore swooping skirts? We never wore one since we didn’t know when to wear it, but after watching Nargis, the London based ethnic actress model wearing one in the movie, many of us desired one. It doesn’t help that red is a favored color… Oh, this was stunning! Nothing compares to that stunning red gown!
Is It Brown or Orange? We Love It
We can not help but notice Nargis’ outfit in ‘Tum Ho‘. Furthermore, we are not sure if Heer’s outfit is brown or orange as she descends those green, luscious mountains. However, we prefer the scarf since it makes it look less girly. Jordan looks fine as well; however, his shirt may be a touch too sloppy for some
The attire in ‘Rockstar’ was fantastic. Perhaps it’s difficult to assess today because the film was released more than a decade ago, but those were the greatest ones that stood the test of time. There were several lovely outfits that were also appropriate for the characters and the film
